Mid-Week Groups

Vespers is a short evening service that offers a time of prayer, singing and quiet reflection. During what is often a busy and frenetic season, vespers offer an opportunity to pause and collect oneself within a context of prayer and worship.

Candlelight vesper services will be offered on Wednesday evenings during Advent from 7:00-7:30 pm in the East Room of the sanctuary, beginning on November 30. Please consider participating in this quiet time of community and prayer.

Middle and high school students will shop for a local family in need for Christmas. If you can, bring cash for In-n-Out. Your lunch will be covered if needed. Friends are welcome to join. Permission slips are required. Permission slips should be printed and filled out prior to the gathering and can be found on our website at: https://www.lavernecob.org/youth/

Wednesday Afternoon Book Study (WABS)

WABS / 10:00 a.m. / 2nd Wednesday of the month /Library

All are welcome! Wednesday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m, in the church library, just off the patio.

For November we will meet on Wednesday, the 9th at 10 a.m., to discuss The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch. Pausch was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. As part of that institution’s traditions, professors were invited to give a lecture at the end of the school year to share their wisdom with the student body, as though that prof had final words to give. In truth, Pausch had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given 3 months to live. This book is his lecture and gives the context of how and why he framed his lecture as he did. It is not maudlin, but mainly fascinating and uplifting.

WABS will not meet in December, but a book has been chosen for the January 11th, 10:00 a.m. meeting: The Whistling Season, by Ivan Doig. Doig writes of life in Montana in the early 1900s. In The Whistling Season, we have a widower, three sons, a housekeeper who arrives from the east, and many life changes. Warm and engaging.
