Mid-Week Groups & Lenten Connect Groups: Sign-ups

Men-a-logue

Men-a-logue, an informal gathering of men at the La Verne Church of the Brethren, was created to help men do what women do naturally visit with their friends! Rev. Vern Jahnke, late of Claremont, started Men-a-logue about fifteen years ago.  He had been a former interim minister of the congregation.  After that service, Vern and his wife, Debra, continued attending services with the congregation.

Men-a-logue meets monthly, usually on the second Wednesday of the month, to visit and catch up with each other’s activities.  The meetings are very informal and the group meets in the Fireside Room or in the library at 7 p.m.

Location: Fireside Room

Ages: All

Day/Time: 2nd Wednesday of the month / Wednesday, March 12th, 2025 / 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday Afternoon Book Study (WABS)

For March 12, we have chosen to read “James”, by Percival Everett.  In this much awarded and acclaimed novel, author Everett reimagines the story of Huckleberry Finn in a new light…from the perspective of run-away slave Jim. “Huck Finn is a Masterpiece…this retelling just might be, too!”. New York Times.  “Brimming with electrifying humor and lacerating observations.” Publisher. “A  Masterpiece that will help redefine one of the classics of American Literature.” Chicago Tribune.  “Genius!”. The Atlantic. This novel simply has too many accolades and enthusiastic reviews…there is no way to include them all! I’m anxious to read it.

All are welcome! Join us to discuss/hear about/introduce quality reading choices.

Muddling Through Mahjong

Are you ready to dive into the world of Mahjong, a fun and informal group where none’s of us know what we’re doing (yet)! Over the six weeks of Lent, we’ll meet, laugh, and fumble our way through learning this classic game together. No prior experience needed – seriously, we’re all starting from scratch. It’s all about having fun and figuring it out as we go. Let’s shuffle those tiles and see what happens!
