Lenten Connect Groups Sign-Ups are Now Closed!

Each year during Lent, groups form around shared interests and connection. This year there are several opportunities for you to connect with your church family as we journey toward Easter. In this email you will find Lenten Groups which required sign-ups and meet at various times and locations.

Youth Gathering – Environmental Documentary and Dinner

Continuing on with our climate focused Lenten series, we will be watching an environmental documentary and share a meal together. We will ponder our own climate impact and determine what ways we can work on addressing environmental degradation.

Location: Fireside Room

Ages: Middle and High School Youth

Day/Time: Sunday, March 3rd, 2024

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Art in the Nearby Museums

Under the direction of Al Clark, this group will study art by visiting local museums together and discussing its context and meaning.

Location: This group will meet at pre-planned local museums

Ages: 8-98

Day/Time: Sunday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Chess Club

Join Daisy Kuroha for a weekly meet up of chess, snacks, and fellowship. All ages are welcome! Please bring your own chess set if you have one.  

Location: Kuroha Home (address will be provided upon sign-up)

Audio Video Group: Seeing and Hearing our Services and Meetings

This Lenten Group will work, play and understand our audio and video systems in the Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, and Social Hall. We will build on these skills for running complex audio-video systems. All are welcome. Middle and high school youth are cordially invited to join in and learn.  

Location: Meet at the La Verne CoB Sanctuary  

Ages: 11 and up

Talking About Gun Violence

Every time a shooting makes national headlines, the same debates erupt: Is the problem guns or mental health? Why is the United States unique in its gun violence problem? Can we reduce this violence while protecting the right to bear arms? Join our book study of “Common Ground: Talking about Gun Violence in America by Donald V. Gaffney  

Ages: Adults and Youth

Bocce Ball with Bob

Join Bob Dyer and friends at Kuns Park for a friendly game of bocci ball. 

Ages: All ages 

Location: Kuns Park 

Day/Time: Fridays from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Let’s Build an Archives Team

Do you love history, or putting things in order?  Do you know about Stew and Fi, or the Pre-School, or digital records?  Come and see the Archives Room (East side of the balcony) and talk to Joan Blocher, the church archivist, about creating an Archives Team on Sundays during Spiritual Formation and/or Wednesday mornings. These will be small group consultations, coordinated with Joan. In addition to our Sunday and Wednesday consultations, there will be a one-time gathering around a meal (time and date to be determined).
