Wednesday Afternoon Book Study (WABS)
May 8, 4:00 p.m.
For our May 8 book study meeting, the WABS will discuss the novel, Benediction, by Kent Haruf. “Incisive, elegiac, and rhetorically rich…”“Absorbing [and] evocative.”“Haruf is a master in summing up the drama that already exists in life, if you just pay attention.”“A quiet and profound statement about endings, about change and death and endurance, and about the courage it takes to finally let go.”
These are just a few of the reviews (partial) of Benediction. Come join us for more discussion and for more good leads to good reads. We meet in the church library. Everyone is welcome.
All-Church Council Meeting
May 19, after worship
All-Church Council Meeting will be held after worship and lunch on Sunday, May 19. Come lend your support as we approve the renewal licensing of Dawna Welch and Dylan Haro. An overview of the items to be discussed during business sessions at Annual Conference held in July will be shared. An update of the new web design will be presented by the Communications Committee – which you’ll want to hear. The youth will provide a taco bar as a fundraiser. We’d welcome your participation in the food, fellowship, and formal Church business!
Food Network: Season 2 Comes to a Close
May 21, 5:00-6:30 p.m.
It has been a great year for Food Network, a monthly dinner for the college-age adults within our church and community. Attendance has grown this year and our crew of volunteers has provided a consistent presence and a warm welcome. Students from the community are beginning to recognize church folk as we move about town and onto campus. We set out to build community and we are!! If you would like to be part of our last dinner before the summer break, join us Tuesday night, May 21 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. If you can’t make this dinner, we’ll see you in September!! To learn more, please contact Corlan Harrison, Zandra Wagoner or Janet Ober.
Spiritual Cinema Circle
May 28, 6:30 p.m.
Spiritual Cinema Circle for May will include the animated short The Danish Poet and several other terrific short subjects. The Danish Poet, beautifully narrated by Liv Ullmann, was shown at the Spiritual Cinema Circle several years ago, but as it’s perhaps our all-time favorite animated short, it certainly deserves a reprieve. It is so clever, funny, and poignant, you’ll enjoy it again even if you’ve seen it. Come join us on Tuesday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m., in the Fireside Room.
Fellowship Visitors will not meet in May because of scheduling conflicts. However, we are still in need of more visitors, so please consider this ministry if you like to meet people, and you have 2 ½ hours on the third Wednesday of each month to volunteer to visit those unable to be in worship on Sunday mornings. Thank you for thinking of serving in this way! Contact Julie Kurtz at (909) 593-2793. We will meet again on June 19, 9:00 a.m., in the Library.
