Youth Programs
Our youth are our conscience. They believe they can change the world and set out to do it. They want to know "why?" and "how?" and "whom?" and aren't afraid to ask. They are fully immersed in the culture, but they are willing to be themselves, regardless. They each have their own beliefs, yet they are always willing to listen to anyone who treats them with respect. Besides all that, they really know how to have fun!

Sunday School
Our Middle School and High School Youth spend their Sunday School hour engaging the world from a faith perspective. They look at current events and the realities of teenage life and ask themselves how the Bible and their own journey with God helps them understand and cope with the world around them, as well as helps them be an influence for good. The Middle School Youth do this with the aid of our denominational curriculum. The High School Youth blaze their own trail!

B.Q.’s and Donuts

Sundays, 9:15-10:10 a.m.

Senior High Youth: Do you ever hear someone make a comment about religion, the Bible, Jesus, the church and wonder about it?  Do you have questions about your own faith and how it fits into the “big picture” of Life, the Universe and Everything?  Now is your chance to ask your Big Questions or B.Q.’s! Every Sunday morning this spring, Janet Ober will be in the Youth (Rainbow) Room from 9:15 to 10:10 a.m. to talk about what’s on your mind.  You can bring your questions with you or slip them in the box in Janet’s office any day of the week. Or just email it to Janet@LaVerneCOB.org.  She doesn’t promise to have all the answers; but she is willing to talk about anything on your mind.  Oh, and yes, she will have donuts if you’re hungry.  (Janet is available to talk about your B.Q.’s at other times too.  Just email or call her: 909-593-1364.)

Service Projects
Being of service to others is important to our youth. They clean pews after worship, volunteer at Young Peacemakers Camp, create and lead services, raise money for families in need and buy gifts for them at Christmas, sell Fair Trade coffee and chocolate to provide just markets for growers, harvesters and producers, and more!

Seminars and Conferences
There are many opportunities to participate in seminars and conferences just for youth!

  • District Youth Conference—hosted by a different Church of the Brethren in California or Arizona each fall.
  • Summer and Winter Camp—at Camp La Verne, located in the San Bernardino Mountains!
  • Workcamps—Church of the Brethren National Youth Workcamps are offered every summer for youth who want to give a week helping others in the U.S. and the world! For more information, visit:
    http://www.brethren.org/genbd/yya/workcamps/index.html
  • Christian Citizenship Seminar—6 days in New York City and Washington DC studying the intersection of faith and politics. (For High Schoolers only) For more information, visit: http://www.brethren.org/genbd/yya/CCS.htm
  • National Youth Conference—a blow-out of youth-oriented worship, workshops, concerts and recreation that happens every four years in the mountains of Colorado! (For High Schoolers only).

Fundraisers
Fundraisers are held throughout the year to help make all these events affordable. Our youth are very good at putting the "fun" in fundraisers!
