What are Camperships?

Camp Scholarships, or “Camperships,” are offered to any family who regularly attends the La Verne Church of the Brethren (LVCOB) and has a child who plans on attending a Winter, Summer, or both Camps. Camperships cover ½ the cost of the early registration fee. Full scholarships are available too.

How Do I Get One?

A child or youth qualifies for a Campership when he or she completes the required number of “job hours” in service at the La Verne Church of the Brethren.  Camperships will be counted in terms of “job hours” completed. Winter Camp requires 6 “job hours” and Summer Camp requires 12 “job hours”. All Camperships hours must be completed by the time a camper leaves for camp. To obtain a Campership application form, see Dawna or Janet, who can also help direct you to jobs that can be counted for “job hours”. Upon completion of the form, please return it to Dawna or Janet along with a note stating which camp the child or youth plans to attend.

Full Camperships

Full Camperships are available for interested families and cover the entire cost of the early registration fee.  To qualify for a Full Campership, a camper needs to meet the same “job hours”, as described above, and also complete a short essay or an original drawing that describes “Why I Want to Go To Camp” to be completed before camp begins.

Who To Contact

If you have questions about or want to apply for a Campership, please contact Dawna Welch or Janet Ober at LVCOB. If you want to learn more about Camp La Verne, log on to the Camp website www.camplaverne.org. Contact Kathy Doramus for information about scholarships available from Camp La Verne.

Service Projects & Worship Events
At the La Verne Church of the Brethren our Children and Youth are a vital part of worship and the community as a whole. Opportunities to participate in parent/staff led activities include the following: acolytes, scripture reading in worship, children and youth-led worship services, service projects for local and global concerns, including, but not limited to, the Walk for the Hungry and Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.

Camping Experiences
Nestled in the San Bernardino Mountains, Camp La Verne offers summer, winter, family and work camps in a rustic, inspirational atmosphere. For more information visit www.camplaverne.org.

Young Peacemakers Camp
This unique, evening, summer camp experience is offered to all children in the surrounding communities, from all faiths and cultural backgrounds. Campers entering kindergarten to entering 6th grade explore topics of peace through various means including song, movement, story and crafts.

Music Program
A choir program is offered for our young children. The youngest children (2 ½ -6 years old) practice during Sunday School in their classrooms.

"You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them." John 13:1-17
